  • Sign up for Central Louisiana’s 2014 Heart Walk benefitting the American Heart Association and be a part of the national movement that’s helping others live longer, stronger, healthier lives. The 2014 Heart Walk is Saturday, March 8th at the Big Island near the Alexandria Zoo. It’s just off Masonic Drive and down from Bringhurst Field.   • “Giving Hope A Helping Hand”… 10 year old Hope McKellar was born without her left hand and a new prosthetic hand would greatly enhance her life. A prosthetic has been built and is waiting on her at Shriner’s Hospital but insurance will not cover the cost… You can help Hope’s dream come true by purchasing a T-Shirt for $20. There will also be a Spaghetti Lunch on Friday, February 7th at the Red Horse in Pineville for $7 a plate. And $10 raffle tickets are available to win a children’s 4-wheeler.   •  You’re invited to the City Park Players production of “Agatha Christie’s: The Mousetrap.” Performances are February 6th thru 8th and 13th thru 15th at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s the 9th and 16th at 2:30 p.m. in the Kress Theater at 1104 3rd Street in downtown Alexandria.   • The Rapides Parish School District is holding its High School Open Enrollment Campaign for the 2014-2015 school year now thru February 28th. Contact area high schools for applications and rules or visit RPSB-dot-US to download an application. Application deadline is 4 p.m. February 28th. Applicants and their parents must reside in Rapides Parish.
  • There will be a benefit Dinner, Dance & Auction for Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office detective Lt. Adrian Lamkin is Thursday, February 6th  from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Rapides Parish Exhibition Hall on Coliseum Boulevard. Proceeds will be used to assist with medical expenses. Tickets are $20 each and must be 18 or older. Tickets include dinner and dance with entertainment by Avery Michaels.   •  The Pineville Rebel Club presents the “41st So Rare Antique Show & Sale”… February 14th, 15th & 16th at the Rapides Coliseum Exhibition Hall. The show features dealers from across the south featuring antique furniture, crystal, Victorian and depression glassware, estate and vintage jewelry, artwork, war memorabilia and more. A glass grinding vendor will be on hand to repair chipped crystal and glassware. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday & Saturday, and 11 to 4 that Sunday. Proceeds benefit Pineville High School.   • Mardi Gras season is here! The Alexandria Mardi Grass Association invites you to enjoy the festivities beginning Friday, February 28th at 4:30 p.m. as the Hixson Autoplex Classic Cars & College Cheerleaders’ Parade rolls in downtown Alexandria. At 7 p.m., the Louisiana Restaurant Association presents “Taste of Mardi Gras” in the Riverfront Center. That Saturday morning at 10, the 17th Annual Children’s Parade rolls through downtown Alexandria. And following that afternoon at 2, the Alexandria Zoo’s Annual King Cake Party. The YMCA of Central Louisiana will host the Mardi Gras Madness 5K beginning at 1 p.m. that Sunday, followed by the 21st Annual Krewes Parade at 2 p.m. beginning on Texas Avenue and ending on North Mall Drive.   • The 2014 ALBC/LSUA Scholarship Open Bass Tournament will be held Saturday, March 8th at the Midway Marina on the Red River above Colfax. Tournament hours are safe daylight to       3 p.m. with weigh-in at 3 at Midway Marina. There will be cash prizes for 1st thru 10th place along with Big Bass Pot. Entry fee is $150 per team.   • The Arts Council of Central Louisiana presents their “Spring 2014 ArtWalk”… Friday, March 28th in downtown Alexandria’s Cultural Arts District from 4 to 9 p.m. ArtWalk us a free, family oriented, self-guided tour of over 75 participating artists, vendors and live entertainment.   • 104.3 The Bridge will host The Bridge Golf Tournament at Links on the Bayou on Saturday, March 29th. Registration for this 4-Man Scramble is $50 per person with lunch provided. Proceeds will be used to provide bibles and Christian supplies to children and teens in Central Louisiana. Sponsorships are available.   • Journey Church invites you to “Ride to the Son III” Sunday, March 23rd …  This FREE motorcycle rally begins with a service at 10:45 a.m., followed by lunch with over 200 door prizes, including a 50 inch TV, iPad Mini and more… blessing of the bikes, and a 50 mile escorted ride… all bikes and all riders are welcome.   • St. Mary’s Residential Training School will host their “8th Annual St. Mary’s 5K Challenge” on Saturday, March 29th.   • You’re invited to the “8th Annual Arts & Healthcare Follies & Art Exhibit”… Saturday, March29thfrom 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center in downtown Alexandria. This signature event raises funds for healing arts programs in our local hospitals, cancer centers and hospice facilities. It features talented local doctors and healthcare professionals performing onstage and exhibiting over 100 pieces of original art. The event is held to honor and thank doctors and healthcare workers in our area and it is open to the public.
